Thanks , it helps a lot ! And it explains a lot as to why I didn’t find (or the wrong ones) on the bike which I believed to be a E

Pardon my lack of vocabulary in english…
Can omeone explain the following sentence from the link rendmoto gave me earlier :
“Get an 8mm Allen headed bolt in the drill (Hold the drill in a vice and use a file to machine it down) or lathe and turn the head down till it’s less than 10mm round. Make sure you put a taper on the inside edge as shown.”
I think I understand but I don’t want to mess up, problem is the guy who wrote used reeeaaal generic words :
- to drill means to “make a hole”, in this case it doesn’t make sense
- apparently a vice is what I would have called a clamp for example, it’s confusing since in french “une vis” which would be a screw
- a file to me is, well, a file but I get what it is in this context
- machine it down : welle I get it but poor choice of words
- “or lathe and turn the head down” : no idea
I kept looking a little and found this page where I found this quote :
“Red line: 7500 (2D) or 9000 (E)
Ignition system: points (2D) or electronic (E)
Choke direction: up and down (2D) or in and out (E)
Forks: non-adjustable (2D) or 3-way adjustable (E)”
But I don’t know what he means by Red line or what is a “points” ignition system…
What confuses me even more is that according to what he says regarding the carb “Up/Down for 2D” or “In/out for E” I should have a 2D but I still have (at least the button exists on my right commodo) an electric starter which is supposed to have appeared on the XS750E. As for thr fork I didn’t look I’ll see this weekend.
Maybe I got some kind of hybrid just in between the 2D and the E, with electric ignition but still equipped with the first carbs ? Am I repairing a prototype ?
If that can hep, here is a picture of that neglected beauty, I don’t think the guy painted the engine himself and I also think the paint job is the orginal one.
From what I read on wikipedia that might help us :
- the seat might differ from one model to another
- my carburetor choke has an “up” and a “down” position, different from certain videos I’ve seen on youtube where I think people had chokes that you kind of “pulled” to the left to activate.I need to check if it’s a Mark 1 or 2 maybe it’s written somewhere
- My exhaust is a 3 into 2
- The bike got kick start AND electronic ignition
- I didn’t see any transparent window to see oil level
Lot of data but crap it’s hard to navigate through every details
You can see the carburetor choke on the picture bellow :
From what I gathered here the number identification follows this pattern :

I’ve got a 1T5, bought in France and I think the first owner bought it in France, or at least Europe, so that narrows it down.
Problem is : My serial number is 1T5 008242, I checked on both the frames and the engine just to make sure and there is no mistake, she doesn’t fall in any category.
Anyone had the same problem ? The reason this bothers me so much is that, well of course first I’d like to know the year, got to be 1978 or before if there is any logic into the seriels (I hope so) but also I’d like to know and be sure what wiring diagram I should be looking into. It already confusing enough with the mentionned security light that is in fact absent.
Ok thanks , I was wondering since the middle one seemed to have been ripped off and the right and left were linked to the two taps. I took a look at it this weekend and they are in fact located AFTER the carb, they are on the engine intakes, just so we are talking about the same thing.
Perhaps yes, I haven’t looked at the scheme yet but that may be it, the middle one was discand I don’t whether it’s normal or not
From what I am reading on the net the “30” refers to the thickness of the bearings, from 00 to 50. So giving the fact that apparently these pieces wear off anyway (slowly but they do) apparently you will be able to use any others from 00 10 20 40 and 50 and the bike will “get used to it” with time without risking anything.
Good to know also : apparently XS1100 use the same parts, we need to check but I suspect XS850 should use the same parts.
Another tip : look for 2F3116563000 (without the spaces like in 2F3-11656-30-00) , I managed to find this page https://www.worldmotoparts.com/oem/page-unit.php?id=363905 which apparently sells these parts, but I don’t know anything about this website so remain careful.
I’m in the process of dismanteling the bike I just bought to clean and make some maintenance on everything, I removed the seat/battery/etc the last weekend, had some struggle with the PRI position since I don’t know what full word it stands for so I kind of put gasoline everywhere,…anyway.
After taking all of these appart I noticed I got what looks like the gas admission for the middle carb that wasn’t connected to anything, I’d like to know what (I guess a tap) it’s supposed to be connected to, left or right tap or something else ? There is rust on it so I hope water didn’t get in there and damaged anything, there is come evidence mices have been living there so they might have eat what was supposed to be here.
If anyone has a picture from the top of the three carburetors with explanations that would be great.
